I previously wrote a regular feature called TL;DR (Too Long, Didn’t Read) Tuesdays. I summarized and discussed two articles/blog posts and provided links to others. While it was fun to write, it was not read very widely and writing the commentary took a lot of time.
For that and other reasons, I haven’t written one of those posts since September — I’m trying something different starting today.
I read a LOT of news/commentary/blogs online. I share some already with family and friends and occasionally on Twitter. I’m going to select 8-10 articles/blog posts I find most interesting and/or which appear relevant to a wide audience and share them with you.
I’m disposing of the long summaries — if I have something to add I’ll provide brief commentary, rather than provide a 300-500 word essay.
Use the GetUpside App to save on gas. I've saved up to 20 cents/gallon on my purchases. Use referral code -- 9V2CD -- to save an extra 15 cents/gallon on your first purchase.
I've opened up an Amazon Storefront -- see a litle of what the Rogue Boys buy and a few of my curated recommendations.

The Roundup
Links to Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times may be limited by a paywall. Many sites give a few free articles/month, so if you don’t pay for those sites and don’t already visit, hopefully you can still read. I pay for subscriptions to all 3 so you will see all three pop up in this feature.
The Washington Post: They were raised to be ‘colorblind’ — but now more white parents are learning to talk about race — of particular interest to me because our 10 year old does NOT like to talk about race. He gets offended if we use the color of someone’s skin when trying to describe someone (i.e. do you know that person, they are tall, dark hair, skin is…”). He’s bi-racial and I know there’s a lot of thoughts behind the comments, but he doesn’t always share them with us.
The Myth of the Kindly General Lee — a great discussion about trying to whitewash history to defend racism

The common denominator behind helicopter parenting: Economic inequality — we obsess over our kids decisions more when there is more at stake economically if they fail
This man went to court to prove his ‘cellphone’ was a hash brown. He won. This absolutely sounds like something I would do. The going to court part at least — I don’t eat hash browns.
The Terrible Truth About Alexa — I bought an Alexa as an early adopter, when the first batch was released. I sent it back because we didn’t use it and my wife didn’t like the looks. I’ve thought about getting one again. Recently Google sent me an offer for a free Mini device, similar to an Alexa. I decided not to get it because of stories like this — the privacy implications are sobering.
The Washington Post: Washington passes bill to become first state to compost human bodies — want to be green? Forget cremation, compost yourself!
The Wall Street Journal: It’s Time to Kick the Bucket List — I’ve never had a formal bucket list. Most of my life goals are ill-defined, such as “don’t f*** up my kids” and “eat more steak” and “take my wife somewhere cool” — maybe I’ve been doing it right all along
Now THIS is payback — if you read this, my take home message is do not be EITHER of the two guys in this article
When to take a bathroom pee break during Avengers: Endgame — if you’re one of the few people left who has not seen this movie, make sure you prep your bladder before going. It’s 3 hours. I took Rogue One out of school early to see it.
