Many non-Muslims do not know that Muslims are expected to base their lives not only on the Quran, but also on the collected sayings and traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). That collection is called the Hadith, and it is meant to be a significant source of guidance for day-to-day living outside of what is in the Quran.
One of the Hadith I learned as a child (and sadly I do not remember most of the ones I learned) concerns mothers:

The Prophet said: Then your mother.

The Prophet said: Then your father.”
As explained by the Imam who taught that to me as a child, it’s a way to impress upon us the high level of esteem, respect, and importance in which we should hold our mothers.
So to all the mom’s in my life (and anyone out there that has an important mother in their lives or memories), Happy Mother’s Day!
